Well here's it. I've made the final decision to leave university, for at least the timebeing.

I thought you would do it..

I pray every thing works out best for you, Jacob. I'm sure things will - just be resilient. Also, I recomend keeping in touch with universities... at some point you may want to go back, and it becomes harder the longer you wait. If you ever need a place to stay in the bay area, California... you have one ;-).

Peace!

I read your comment to one of my own existential updates a few weeks ago, even tho I did not comment it at the time. Of course, I support you in your choice, but I do also have the following general comments.

Firstly, unlike 500 years ago where a university education was mostly for the elite, a degree today is seen as almost mandatory in the current society. It is _almost_ as if you are doomed to minimum wage jobs unless you got some fancy diploma to wave with (even if the diploma is based on years of studies where all you basically did was gulp up again facts shoved down your throat by lecturers and seminar teachers). Not having the diploma means a lot of closed doors, but it basically just means that you got to focus on some other doors which Are open to you.

Secondly, your life IS your own. You might not want to do X (University) at this stage, but then your challenge is to focus at Y - your own passionate areas. Be it volunteering in your neighbourhood in your spare time after your working hours, or to study some specialized area on your own. An undergraduate university degree in say literature studies is a lot about introducing you to the "classics" of that field. If you are not interested in spending a few years of your life on the classics and going directly to the field of your choice, then do that. Rejoice in your choice, and be productive in your own ways. I surely wish you the best of luck, and I must add that gee, your options are so many that it IS scary.

"Just do it!" :)
